Nutrition benefits of brussel sprouts
Brussel sprouts have numerous health benefits. Packed with fiber, antioxidants, and minerals like vitamin C and K, brussel sprouts are a great side dish option to add to your veggie routine! Most importantly, the high fiber content helps keep your blood sugar levels steady.
Did you know that some of the fiber you eat remains undigested in your body? Because it moves slowly and remains mainly undigested, this slows down the rate sugar is absorbed in your body!
Brussel sprouts are rich in antioxidants. Kaempferol, one major antioxidant, has been proven to improve heart health, reduce inflammation, and cancer cell growth.
High in vitamin C, brussel sprouts can increase the absorption of iron and promote immune function. Only half a cup of brussel sprouts reaches over the daily vitamin K requirement, beneficial for coagulation and bone growth.
Brussel sprouts are quick and easy to make as a side dish or mixing into your entrees while making a significant impact on your overall health!
Are you supposed to peel brussel sprouts?
After washing and cutting off each stem, I would recommend removing the outer leaves from each brussel sprout. Also, remove any damaged leaves.
Some leaves may fall off after you trim and peel, this allows for a few extra crispy leaves!
What pairs well with brussel sprouts?
Brussel sprouts pair best with savory, rich flavors and dishes!
- Olive oil enhances flavor and helps brussel sprouts get nice and crispy!
- Parmesan cheese is another great pairing idea!
- Salt and pepper are a must!
- Thyme and parsley also pair well with brussel sprouts.
Brussel sprouts with bacon and maple syrup is the perfect combination
Bacon and maple syrup provide a perfect sweet and savory flavor combination. Brussel sprouts have an earthy slightly bitter taste, so combining these flavors creates a wonderful side dish! You and your kids will be begging for more!
