I know a salad with fruit and vegetables and bacon may sound kind of funny, but trust me. You’re going to bring this to every tailgate or dinner gathering you head out to this fall! California Grapes make the perfect sweet half of a salty-sweet combo. I also love how they add the perfect juicy texture with the crunchy broccoli.

What is grape salad made of?

Traditional grape salad is usually heavier on the dressing and not as packed with veggies. But, sometimes broccoli salad can feel like it’s lacking a flavor punch. So, we switched it up a bit and combined the two recipes!

California Grape Broccoli Salad ingredients

Our main ingredients for this recipe include:

  • California grapes: California grapes are perfect for adding to salad recipes. Most salads rely on a salty/sweet flavor profile. And, California grapes do just that while also providing antioxidants and other polyphenols, and other immune supporting nutrients
  • Broccoli: Broccoli, one of my favorite cruciferous veggies, is associated with healthy blood sugar levels and makes a perfect hearty salad base. 
  • Red onion: Red onion combines perfectly with the Greek yogurt dressing and the natural sweetness of California grapes.
  • Homemade honey greek yogurt dressing: You could definitely use a store bought dressing if you prefer, but it’s super simple to whip up this homemade dressing too. It’s the bestdressing for broccoli salad in my opinion.
  • Sunflower seeds: Sunflower seeds add a bit of crunch and fiber to our salad. I recommend using unsalted seeds.
  • Bacon: Who doesn’t love bacon? It rounds out the flavor profile of these ingredients perfectly. Look for uncured or nitrate free options.

Can you eat broccoli raw in a salad?

Yes, and that’s exactly what we’re doing in this recipe. It’s part of what makes it so simple and quick to make. I also love the hearty crunch of raw broccoli combined with juicy, slightly firm California grapes.

California Grape Broccoli Salad recipe

Our broccoli grape salad recipe makes about 6 servings. If you eat it right away it’s ready in under 15 minutes. But, you can also make it ahead of time and store it in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 3 days. 

What to pair with your broccoli grape salad

Broccoli grape salad is a perfect side dish for any late summer or fall meal. Pair it with anything from grilled chicken to steaks to roasted pork chops. You can also add your preferred protein on top and enjoy it all together.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups California grapes any color
  • 4 cups roughly chopped broccoli
  • 1/2 small red onion sliced thin
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 Tbsp orange juice
  • 2 Tbsp avocado oil or another mild oil
  • 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 6 slices uncured bacon cooked and chopped small
  • 1/4 cup shelled sunflower seeds
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Combine the chopped up broccoli and red onion in a medium sized bowl. Set aside.
  • Next, combine the Greek yogurt, orange juice, avocado oil, apple cider vinegar, honey, and sea salt in a small bowl and mix thoroughly until smooth. This is your dressing.
  • Add the dressing to the broccoli and red onions and stir together until the broccoli is fully coated in the dressing.
  • Next add in the crumbled bacon, sunflower seeds, and California grapes. Stir until combined.
  • Serve and enjoy!
