If you love granola but want an option that’s better for your blood sugars, this Coconut Almond Low Sugar Granola is the perfect solution. Many store-bought granolas are loaded with added sugars, which can lead to blood sugar spikes and energy crashes. This homemade version keeps the flavor and crunch you love while keeping the sugar content much lower.

What You’ll Need to Make My Coconut Almond Low Sugar Granola

Made with oats, nuts, seeds, and just a small amount of maple syrup for natural sweetness, this recipe creates a crunchy, satisfying granola with only 5 grams of sugar per serving. This recipe is:

  • Simple to make
  • Great for meal prep
  • A delicious way to add fiber, protein, and healthy fats to your day

Why This Low Sugar Granola Is a Better Choice for People with Diabetes

Traditional granola can easily contain 10–15 grams of sugar per serving, sometimes even more depending on the brand. That added sugar often comes from syrups, sweetened dried fruit, or added sugars. These can make granola taste more like dessert than breakfast.

This low sugar granola keeps things balanced by focusing on nutrient-dense ingredients like oats, almonds, pecans, and pumpkin seeds. These ingredients naturally provide fiber, protein, and healthy fats that help slow digestion and support steadier blood sugar levels.

Each serving contains:

  • Only 5g sugar
  • 4g fiber
  • 7g protein
  • 19g healthy fats

That combination of nutrients helps make this granola more satisfying and balanced, especially compared to many store-bought options.

A Diabetes-Friendly Granola Option

For people managing diabetes, building meals and snacks with balanced macronutrients can help support more stable blood sugar levels. This low sugar granola includes a mix of carbohydrates from oats along with fats and protein from nuts, seeds, and almond butter.

The fiber in the oats and nuts helps slow the absorption of carbohydrates, while the healthy fats help keep you feeling full longer. When paired with a protein-rich food like Greek yogurt or cottage cheese, this granola becomes a well-balanced breakfast or snack that supports blood sugar management.

Simple Ingredients, Big Flavor

Another great thing about this low sugar granola recipe is how simple the ingredient list is. Everything comes together using pantry staples you may already have on hand.

Rolled oats create the hearty base, while chopped pecans, almonds, and pumpkin seeds add crunch and richness. Almond butter helps bind everything together and adds healthy fats and protein, while a small amount of maple syrup provides just enough natural sweetness.

The addition of vanilla extract and toasted coconut flakes brings warmth and flavor, making the granola taste indulgent without relying on excess sugar.

If you want a touch of sweetness and chewiness, you can also add low sugar dried cranberries once the granola has cooled.

Perfect for Meal Prep

This low sugar granola is also ideal for making ahead. One batch yields 12 servings, making it easy to have a quick breakfast or snack ready to go throughout the week.

Once cooled, simply store the granola in an airtight container for up to one week. You can enjoy it in many ways, including:

  • Sprinkled over Greek yogurt
  • Paired with milk
  • Added to smoothie bowls
  • Enjoyed by the handful as a snack

Making your own granola at home is one of the easiest ways to control the sugar content while still enjoying a crunchy, flavorful breakfast staple.

If you’ve been searching for a simple, crunchy, and diabetes-friendly low sugar granola, this recipe is one you’ll want to keep on repeat.
